Title Safety & Training Specialist
Location Mattawan, MI

The Safety & Training Specialist will implement and teach Ralph Moyle, Inc’s safety training programs. This hands-on position will oversee the development of RMI’s professional drivers and works closely with the Head Instructor at our training facility. This position is responsible for ensuring that drivers receive and understand how their training assist in their skill development as a professional driver within the organization.  This position reports directly to the Safety & Human Resource Manager.

 

Essential Duties

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs to reduce frequency of accidents and injuries
  • Investigates all accidents including root cause analysis and implementation of appropriate safety controls; recommends and/or coordinates corrective actions
  • Manage all open claims and work with adjusters to close claims efficiently and inexpensively
  • Collect DOT roadside inspections, monitor CSA scores and disputes all applicable DataQs from violations
  • Responsible for maintaining Hours of Service records and communications
  • Maintain safety training matrix for tracking employee training
  • Perform random check rides, ongoing training and written evaluations for each driver evaluated
  • Assist with orientation and the on boarding of drivers
  • Monitor portal and camera incidents triggered by fleet activity
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes
  • Ensure overall safety activities are in compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA and DOT laws and regulations

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of CSA and HOS
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations
  • Familiarity with all applicable safety rules, regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of different learning styles and how to effectively train each group

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to respond to unanticipated events and react quickly with effective communication
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages and values input and feedback
  • Strong computer skills: outlook, excel, word and other related programs
  • Supervisory experience preferred; specifically supervising/training a driver workforce

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of experience in similar role in transportation
  • Flexibility to work nights, holiday and weekends if necessary
  • Possess a valid CDL-A Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination, including a background and a drug test
  • No preventable accidents within the past 36 months

Title Logisitics Apprentice

The Logistics Apprentice is a full-time position that is responsible for assisting in the dispatch area, including but not limited to filling in during vacations, order entry, answering phones and customer updates and will be a part of the on-call rotation to provide after-hours driver support.  The Apprentice is responsible for running and managing weekly and monthly reports used to manage fleet efficiency.  This is an entry level position that will provide a hands-on experience to learn many aspects of the operation while tracking for future openings within the department.  The apprentice will report to the Operations Manager but may receive assignments from multiple staff members.

Reporting: The Apprentice is responsible for the timely completion of weekly and monthly reports including:

  • Service Report-Access Business Group (Monthly)
  • Tractor Performance Report (Monthly)
  • Dwell Time Report (Monthly)
  • Fuel Master Report (Monthly)
  • Driver Scorecard Report (Monthly)
  • Update Google sheets used by the dispatch group (Monthly)
  • Idle Trailer Report (Weekly)
  • Driver Productivity Report (Weekly)
  • Monitor and audit driver related service failures (Weekly)
  • Audit dispatch error service failures (Weekly)

Operations: The Apprentice will assist Driver Managers or Load Planners with daily operations including:

  • Provide customer updates on loads
  • Order entry
  • Update trailer movements in the TMS system and McLeod
  • Monitor Out of Route miles
  • Monitor toll road usage
  • Update and monitor out of service equipment and PM management in TMS system.
  • Resolve external driver errors in McLeod
  • Answering phone calls
  • Filling in for Driver Managers and Planners during vacations and illness

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of logistics experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Microsoft word, Excel and Outlook and ability to quickly learn other job specific applications.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations helpful.
  • Ability to work both in a team atmosphere and independently.
